4 Most Expensive Cities In The U.S. For Gas
In today's budget-conscious society, Americans are doing whatever they can to save money and keep costs down. The high price of gas is not making it easy for Americans to keep costs in check and budgets on track. Not everyone is in the same boat though, as the amount of money you pay for gas can vary significantly depending on where you live. Here is a look at five of the most expensive places in America for gas.

Honolulu, Hawaii
Honolulu remains one of the most expensive cities in America when it comes to fuel prices. The city features an average cost of $4.11 per gallon, which well exceeds the national average of approximately $3.42 per gallon for regular gas. If you happen to own vehicles that are notorious for gas guzzling, such as an SUV or minivan, your price could be astronomical. Additionally, the price is even higher for premium and diesel fuel grades with prices as high as $4.29 per gallon for premium fuel and $4.94 per gallon for diesel fuel. With average gas prices for regular fuel at approximately $4.009 per gallon, citizens in Honolulu may want to find a cheaper transportation method.

New York City
Another city that is plagued with high gas prices is New York City. The average cost for a gallon of regular fuel in New York City currently stands at approximately $4.005, falling just short of Honolulu's present average. Meanwhile, the average for premium grade and diesel grade fuel is even higher. Premium gas prices are as high as $5.19 per gallon, and diesel fuel prices are as high as $4.99 per gallon. Fortunately for New Yorkers, there are plenty of alternative transportation options available to them. With gas costs so high, a bus or even a cab ride across town may actually be much cheaper than filling up your tank in New York.

Another area of New York that is being hit hard with high gas prices is Long Island. Featuring an average cost of $3.955 for a gallon of regular gas, Long Island is well above the national average. Prices have reached as high as $4.45 for a gallon of regular fuel, while premium-grade gas can cost as much as $4.79 per gallon. Diesel is as high as $4.99 per gallon.

Bridgeport, Conn.
Bridgeport, Conn. is another city that is trying to get a grip on the cost of gas. With an average cost for a gallon of regular fuel at $3.876 and costs of regular gas reaching up to $3.99, Bridgeport, Conn. is definitely one city where you do not want to run out of gas. Meanwhile, premium-grade fuel and diesel fuel top out at $4.49 per gallon.

Santa Barbara, Calif.
Another city that has been hit hard by high gas costs is Santa Barbara, Calif. The city features an average cost for a gallon of regular fuel at $3.966 and costs reaching as high as $4.49 per gallon for regular gas. Meanwhile, premium and diesel gas prices are even higher with a gallon of premium fuel costing as much as $4.69 and a gallon of diesel fuel costing up to $4.89.

The Bottom Line
It seems that no matter where you go these days, the cost of gas is exceedingly high, and there are signs that gas prices are going up. Some locations definitely offer better prices on gas than others, but the five examples given above are just the tip of the iceberg for cities with high gas prices. Prior to filling up your tank, it may be wise to check online in order to see which gas stations in your area are offering the best deals on gas. While you may only save a few cents per gallon, it definitely adds up when you are frequently filling up your tank.
